At the start of a brand-new year, it can be routine to dwell on all of the disappointments and challenges that have gotten in the way of your goals and dreams. Not just within the past year, but within all of the past years combined.
So many “should haves”, “would haves” and “what ifs” can enter your thoughts as you try to look forward and eliminate any lingering regrets about the things that did or did not happen the way you wanted them to.
As each year passes, it is easy to be reminded of the things that you haven’t accomplished in your life and it can be quite disheartening. Things that you thought you’d get to but didn’t. All of those sacrifices and hardships you had to endure while telling yourself that in order to get “A” you’d have to let of go of “B”. Always trying to get ready for that one thing you needed to be ready for only to discover that you were never ready and never would be.
Reflecting on time passed it becomes easy to see how much time has potentially been wasted.
Perhaps you were so busy trying to create the ideal life that you forgot to live. Perhaps realizing that you missed out on so many amazing opportunities makes you feel guilty or resentful.
It can be disappointing to acknowledge that you can’t go back in time and have a re-do no matter how badly you want one. Where you’ve been and what you’ve done, whether it’s been ideal or not, is a crucial part of the big picture in determining where you’re going!
Today is a brand-new day and you can absolutely embrace every minute of it and make it meaningful. You may not have been previously perfect but who has been? Besides, perfection gets in the way of enjoying the little things anyway!
From today onward, you can choose what you do and who you are with purpose and intention!
Allow yourself to have a self-talk moment when you need it. A moment where you remind yourself that even though you didn’t always accomplish your goals and get the results that you wanted in the past, you will strive to do your very best from now on. In every experience you can find gratitude no matter how joyous or painful the experience may be. The past has been filled with many lessons and memories. But, as far as all the stuff that didn’t work out the way you wanted it to, it will only affect you negatively if you allow it.
The wonderful thing about a new year is that it is totally a blank canvas waiting to be written upon. Whatever limiting beliefs or patterns you have created in your life, you can choose to end them now. New dreams, expectations and connections bring about new optimism and new possibilities.
It’s never too late to accomplish the things you’ve always wanted to do, wanted to have or wanted to achieve.
It’s never too late to make a measurable difference in your life, this new year and every year to come!
