There are tons of memes and short stories out there depicting a miner in arms reach of his diamond win-fall and walking away because it’s too hard to dig any further or he’s spent way too much time doing the work without a result etc. It’s such a great example of what happens to so many people who try hard, do all of the right things, but don’t see the results they want, so they quit.

We live in a society where we want instant gratification.  Hard work shouldn’t be as hard as it once was because we have so much technology, so many support systems we can tap in to and, we can learn what we need to learn by the click of a mouse and a google search.

The vision and the planning can be very exciting and a ton of fun.  Big goals and big dreams are the fuel that gets us going and eager to begin. However, the implementation process can often be more tedious leading us down a path of resistance, resentment and withdrawal.  When this happens, the seeds of doubt begin to enter our thoughts and the idea of quitting becomes more and more appealing.  We talk ourselves into a pros and cons conversation that eventually leads us to the decision that this isn’t working out the way we thought it would so we shouldn’t waste any more time working on it.

However, sometimes, these experiences are exactly what we need in order to pivot our plans or adjust our processes.  Sometimes, the results are right in front of us – we just need to push ourselves a little bit further or a little bit differently and reach out and grab them.  Sadly, most people don’t take this extra step and they quit before realizing how close they really were to the results they wanted.  And, because they quit, they’ll never know what might have been.

There are lots of reasons to keep going when you want to give up.  Here are some reasons you should write down somewhere and keep handy so that when you find yourself in this exact spot, you can make a conscious decision about whether or not it’s time to quit, or, push through to the finish line.

5 Reasons to Keep Going When You Want to Give Up

You believe in your dreams

Would you give up on your spouse or your kids when they’re struggling? So why would you give up on yourself?  Your goals are worth pursuing and you deserve to have the life and business you want.  Life is full of twists and turns, it’s up to you to decide how you’re going to let it hold you back or send you soaring.

It could change for the better

If you had a crystal ball that could guarantee you what the future looked like, you’d all be happier and more successful right?  You can’t know the answer to that.  All of the pre-planned ideas and plans you have are guidelines.  They’re put in place so you have something to follow.  When results aren’t happening the way you thought they would, its up to you to decide whether or not you believe in what you’re doing enough to have faith that it will work out regardless of the “how” or “when”.

It’s always darkest before the dawn

It’s important to remember that the hardiest times typically come right before a breakthrough.  It can be difficult to keep the faith but, you need to focus on what is the result of your efforts and not just the tiring process of getting there. When you follow through on your task, it’ll work the way you wanted it to – or it won’t.  Either way, there is a result but you have to work through the darkest hours to see the light.

Success feels great

The pure joy of knowing that you defied the odds, beat the obstacles and won the race.  You stayed determined and resilient to the end and now you’ve achieved your goal.  The taste of success is one that you won’t forget. It’s the most sweet and fulfilling taste in the world.  Embrace it and use it to inspire and motivate you as you move onward to the next big dream and goal.

You don’t want to regret this

When you look back on your life and business, you won’t want to have regrets.  You don’t to be in a situation where you’re saying things like you “should have” or “could have” but, you didn’t.  You don’t want to say things like “if only I had done that” or “what was I thinking”?  Ultimately, even when the outcomes might not be what you hoped for, you’ll be able to find happiness in knowing that you persevered and pushed through the obstacles and limitations you faced.  You gave it your all and, failure or triumph, know you kept your commitment to your pursuit of personal success.
